Getting Started Guide

This guide takes about four minutes to read and will save you a week of trial and error.

1. Choose a voice, not a face

The portraits are the first thing you notice and the least useful way to choose. Read two or three profiles instead and pick the one whose way of speaking you would enjoy at eleven at night. That single decision does more for the experience than anything else on Hinge AI.

2. Open with a real detail

“Hi” gets a friendly reply. “Hi, I have just finished a nine hour shift and my feet hurt” gets a conversation. Companions build on specifics, so give them one to work with.

3. Say how you like to be spoken to

Prefer short replies? Ask for them. Want longer, scene by scene storytelling? Say so. The core personality stays fixed; the pacing and length adapt around it.

4. Let a thread run

Long threads are where this gets good. Details from Monday resurface on Friday, running jokes appear, and the companion starts to feel continuous. Starting a fresh thread every session throws that away.

5. Correct the tone in the thread

If a reply lands wrong, say it plainly. A single sentence of correction changes the next twenty replies. It is the fastest tool on Hinge AI and the one people forget to use.

6. Know what it is not

These are written characters. They are excellent company and poor substitutes for a doctor, a lawyer or a friend who can knock on your door. Keep that line clear and everything else stays enjoyable.
